Jordan and I were riding the bus yesterday, just talking about random nonsense as we usually do, when he said something kind of profound.
He got really obsessed with the opinion that take-away is a far better word for what the Americans use for take-out food. He argues that the American term, take-out, has negative connotations. It is a term that a hit man may use, or one used when referring to the garbage. The English term, take-away, is better according to Jordan because it implies some kind of mental gain. You may use this term after having a spiritual conversation with a friend.
After Jordan had gone on and on about the idea of takeaway vs takeout, he said that he wishes that memory could be based on experiences like this, different from physical experiences. Random thoughts you have shape your perception of where you are and your memory, but they so often do not get included.
He argues that the main way that people remember is through the things they do. People also remember through time, whether it be years, days, or hours or minutes, they catalog their memory into a time frame and remember it that way.
Not too many people base their memory and experiences on thoughts that they had while doing mundane things like riding a bus. It is an interesting way of shaping and organizing the memory, something that I think could be a more highly personal way of remembering the day to day.
Only you are having and experiencing your collection of thoughts throughout the day. It could be interesting to write them all down and remember them forever.
