After a harrowing experience at the airport due to a freak storm in Charlotte, which resulted in my flight being delayed for six hours, followed by even more drama, I made it to London!!
I slept a total of one (1) hour on my flight, despite having two seats to myself (the luxury of sitting in the very back of the plane!). Customs and passport control in the UK is a breeze, zipped through there and made my way to Jordan, who had already made his way to our first housesit in Godstone. Once in Godstone, finding the house was a little difficult because the houses on the street were all named. They had no numbers. After some difficulty, Jordan and the two dogs, Ziggy and Cosmo, met me at the door, I would later meet the cat and the two birds, but first came eggs and toast which Jordan kindly made for me.
Jordan, still experiencing a bit of jet lag, and me, just plain old tired, took a five hour nap at 9am. After we woke up, we went for a nice walk with the dogs, which turned into an hour and a half walk in the rain because we got lost multiple times. On the bright side, we found our way on a route that took us through the main part of Godstone town, so we got to see the pubs and the main green in town.
We ate dinner at one of the pubs we found on the walk, and I convinced Jordan to get a beer. It wasn’t that hard of a persuade, I think because he wanted to say he drank his first “pint.” We then came home and did our usual of watching the X-Files, but in this country it doesn’t have ads!!! We may never come home!
The next day (Friday) we attempted the terrifying feat of going to the grocery store. Many of you know that I am not the best at going to the grocery store, I do find it quite scary. But we rode the bus there, which was calming because I love public transportation. Jordan and I killed the grocery store adventure!
We then came home and made a killer sesame chicken with broccoli and mushroom, at least I thought it tasted good, I’m not convinced Jordan tasted any of it. He’s telling me right now he did taste it and it was good, but somehow he ate two plates in the time that I ate half of one, so I remain unconvinced.
On Saturday we mostly chilled, the weather was surprisingly fantastic, sunny almost all day. Me and the dogs spent quite a bit of time basking in the heat. It was a nice change of pace from the weather we have been experiencing which has been chilly/ rainy fall weather. Once it cooled down I got absolutely obliterated in Mario Party and Mario Kart by Jordan. We planned on going to dinner at a pub in town that had live music planned, but the music got cancelled, so we made a nice walk of it going down a few trails before coming home and making dinner and then watching Pirates of the Caribbean.
On Sunday, the weather was nice again, so Jordan and the dogs and I enjoyed some time outside. This Sunday, Jordan experienced his first ever Sunday Roast! Which, for my American readers is exactly as it sounds, a roast dinner that people in the UK have almost every Sunday. I made my first spatchcock chicken, ever. It turned out pretty good if I do say so myself. I added pictures for proof.
My seasoned spatchcockers will know that this photo was taken before everything was entirely cooked. Just know that I did put it back in the oven after this photo so the chicken could finish cooking. Also know that even though I did this, I unknowingly took the chicken out before it was done cooking, and put the veggies back in to crisp up. And eventually ended up having to put the chicken back in the oven. All that to say, Jordan and I started cooking at 5.30 pm and ended up eating around 8.30 pm.
And that was my first week in the UK!!
